Call For Justice - March For Peace

A day long
Peace March,
from Wheaton
to Geneva

Saturday, October 30th, Starting at 9:00 am

Second Baptist Church, 1520 Avery, Wheaton

“We will bring unmistakeable focus on the tragic loss of life in this war - on both sides. We will call for an end to the war. We will call for bringing the US troops home.”

To draw attention to the tragic loss of life in the Iraq War, marchers will carry approximately 100 cardboard replicas of coffins. Some will be draped in black cloth representing over 13,000 Iraqi civilian dead. Some will be draped in US flags, representing almost 1,100 US service personnel killed. The Peace March will proceed from Wheaton’s Second Baptist Church, through Winfield and West Chicago to Geneva’s historic Kane County Courthouse. Churches will toll their bells along the march route, to recognize those killed in the Iraq War.

Participants can walk 2, 4, 6 or 13 miles,
whatever distance suits their abilities.

Schedule of Events for Saturday, October 30, 2004:

OPENING EVENTS (Wheaton):
- 9:00 a.m. Kick-off Rally: Second Baptist Church, 1520 Avery in Wheaton Featuring Dr. Calvin Morris, Director of the Community Renewal Society, Michael McConnell, director of American Friends Service Committee, & Military Families & more
- 10:00 a.m. March Begins: from Second Baptist Church, 1520 Avery in Wheaton (Free Parking available all day in 2nd Baptist Church parking lot) By Train: exit at Wheatons College Avenue station, follow signs, 1 block South & 1 block East
MARCH OPTIONS (various towns):
Participants are welcome to March the length that suits them:
- 2 miles to Wheaton Train Sation, approx. 10:45 a.m.
- 4 miles to Winfield Train Station, approx. 11:15 a.m.
- 6 miles to West Chicago Train Station, approx. 12:00 noon
- 13 miles to Genevas historic Kane County Courthouse, approx. 3:15 p.m.
Note: Geneva Train Station is 2 blocks south of Closing Rally Site (for transportation at days end)
CLOSING EVENTS (Geneva):
- 3:15-3:45 p.m, Standing Silent Vigil: on Genevas Rte. 38 (State Street), near the Fox River Bridge.
- 4:00-5:00 p.m, Closing Rally, at historic Kane County Courthouse, on 3rd Street, 1 block South of Route 38 featuring Kathy Kelly, Military Families against the war, Music & more
A SUPPORT BUS WILL ACCOMPANY MARCHERS (along march route):
A school bus will accompany marchers, to provide snacks, drinks, a place to rest your feet, a media table, first aid station, protection from the rain and more. Additionally, a recreational vehicle with restroom facilities will follow marchers, providing relief to those in need.
RETURN TRANSPORTATION (at days end):
Return transportation (to the east) is available on the METRA Chicago to Geneva Line. A train departs Geneva at 6:05 p.m. to points of origin (West Chicago, Winfield, Wheaton, Chicago). The Geneva Train Station is 2 blocks South of the Closing Rally Site on Third St. A $5 Weekend Train Pass (good for Saturday & Sunday) can be purchased on the train or at any METRA Ticket Office. Approximately 40 seats will be available on the school bus return trip, providing transportation to train stations between Geneva and Wheaton.
