Saturday October 30th Peace March - What to Bring

Walkers can go 2, 4, 6 or 13 miles, with train service back to points of origin.

  1. WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES
With good support, not tootight or loose.2 pairs of cotton socks is a good idea to resist blistering, as long as they don't jam up your toes. If it's rainy, you can put plastic bread bags over your socks, but under your shoes, tokeep your feetdry and warm. DO NOT wear a brand new pair of shoes; you'll get blisters (no matter how expensive they are).

  2. WEAR LAYERS OF CLOTHING
Lots of layers alow you to add or remove clothing to adjust your temperature throughout the day as circumstances change. Cotton is good. Under shirts, long sleeved jerseys, long sleeved shirt, sweat shirt, wool sweater, wind breaker, possibly rain coat (w/ hood and rain pants if you've got 'em) if drizzle or rain is forecasted.

  3. MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS
A water bottle, hat, sun glasses, sun screen, gloves if it's cool - and a camera. There will be incredible photo-ops along the march route. Bring a fany pack, with a drink bottle ora light backpack or shoulder bag to carry miscellany items.

  4. BRING DRINKS
People need to drink regularly throughout the course of the walk (drinking every 30 minutes is a good idea, even if it's not hot. Drink before you're thirsty. Sport drinks (Gatorade, etc.), and fruit juiceswill sustain you Far Better than plain water.

  5. BRING FOOD
Pack a Lunch. We'll stop for a half hour lunch break about 1:00.Bring Fruit to eat as snacks during the march.Bring Bananas!! Seriously, they contain a lot of potassium that helps eliminate muscle cramping during heavy activities.

  6. EAT CARBS
Hikers, runners and bicyclists all consume heavy carbohydrates before a big event. This is a big event! Carbs will give your body good fuel to burnduring the long walk. Start eating spaghetti, rice, breads, and all types of fruits now (all day Thursday and Friday). I guarantee this will boost your stamina on March day.

  7. WHAT WE'LL HAVE
We'll have 4 nurses, 2 support vehicles. a school bus and an RV with a bathroom, some water, some snacks, some fruit, BUT, it's best if people try to bring their own food and drink.
